The Covid-19 pandemic has created a whole new set of uncertainties, disrupting factory operations, supply chains and customer demand. British manufacturers have done what they do best, bringing resourcefulness and ingenuity to the collective fight.

It has been nothing short of humbling to see how UK manufacturing and engineering companies have united to help support and develop the much-needed PPE, ventilation systems and test kits in response to the Coronavirus outbreak as well as supplying essential equipment for the temporary Nightingale hospitals.

These are difficult times, but Thorlux is well placed to see through the challenges Coronavirus presents. The manufacturing facility is operating at a reduced level and strict social distancing measures are being enforced. Many office staff are working from home, ensuring support services are still fully operational. Flexibility is the key with the potential need for shift working and changes to the working hours policy together with ongoing consultation, feedback and thinking outside the box.

Thorlux prides itself on being a responsible corporate employer and is focused on supporting the national effort. This has been done by continuing to provide goods and services where they are needed, such as work with the NHS, but also by enabling the government to target its remaining funds to those areas where they are required the most. Thorlux has therefore decided not to apply for compensation for furloughed employees during this initial period of lockdown, and will continue to offer all employees normal pay whilst they are not working.

As our country pulls together in unity and starts to plan economic recovery, we are seeing  businesses and people working to support one another on a whole new level, in order to keep our country going through this challenging time.
